SILVER BULLET 3 — DESKTOP
=========================

Plain-language answers from your data, on your computer: one chat for
your files (Excel, CSV, TSV, Parquet, text) and your databases
(PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle — only ever read).

One program. Nothing to install: keep it anywhere you like.

STARTING IT
-----------

  Windows Double-click SilverBullet.exe.
The first time, Windows may say "Windows protected your PC":
click "More info", then "Run anyway".

macOS Drag "Silver Bullet 3.app" to Applications (or anywhere), then
double-click it. The first time, macOS may say it cannot check
the app: click "Done", open System Settings → Privacy &
Security, click "Open Anyway" next to Silver Bullet 3 and
confirm with your password or Touch ID. (On macOS 14 or
earlier, right-click the app → Open → Open also works.)

Linux ./SilverBullet (in a terminal, or from your file manager)

Silver Bullet is signed with its maker's release key, not by Apple or
Microsoft, by design (licence agreement, clause 10A). That is why your
computer may warn you the first time.

Your browser opens on Silver Bullet, already signed in — no password.

There is no window to keep open. Silver Bullet has an icon in the menu bar
(macOS) or the notification area (Windows; Linux desktops that show
status icons):

Open Silver Bullet opens it in your browser again, signed in
Show data folder where your sources, files and logs are
  Quit Silver Bullet stops it

Closed the browser? Silver Bullet stops by itself a while after its last
page closes. Start it again whenever you like; starting it while it runs
just opens the browser.

(On Linux without a status icon area, the terminal is the window: press
Enter in it to open the browser again, Ctrl+C to stop.)

WHERE YOUR DATA IS
------------------

  Windows %LOCALAPPDATA%\SilverBullet3
  macOS ~/Library/Application Support/SilverBullet3
  Linux ~/.local/share/silver-bullet-3

app.db holds your sources, dictionary, questions and settings; vault.key
decrypts the saved database passwords (keep it with the rest); files/ the
files you loaded; logs/ the logs. Replacing the program with a newer
version keeps everything. Silver Bullet is reachable only from this
computer (127.0.0.1).
Silver Bullet Suite 2 keeps its own folder and is not touched.

TRIAL AND LICENCE
-----------------

Silver Bullet runs as a 14-day trial. To buy a licence, open Admin →
Licence and click "Buy a licence" (or the trial's banner). Choose Monthly
or Yearly and pay at the checkout that opens in your browser. There is no
account to make. The key is installed by itself within a minute, and is
also e-mailed to you. No refunds once the key is delivered: use the trial
to try it first.

Lost the key, or moving to a new computer? On the same Licence page, use
"Get my key" or "Move to this computer". A key from the e-mail can also
be pasted there.

The Test Kit (sample files, a sample database and questions with known
answers) is a separate download.
